Monty,

My local track will be running a class with the ASP chassis, Ultimate and LMP bodies and group 10 motors.

The list of motors in the rules are the Wasp, Super Wasp, Contender, Hornet, Sportman I & II and the Challenger II.

The tracks we run on will be:
125' Kingleman
135" Hillclimb

I'm not familar with this class of motors and would like to get your input and maybe a recommendation on these motors and chassis setup as a starting point?

Thx

Arreaux,

Of the motors you list, the Wasp and Hornet have x-12 length arms with 60 turns of 30 guage wire. The Contenders, Sportsman, and Challenger motors use Gr20 length stacks, but have 55 turns of 30. In practice, they have similar power, but the short arms are the high RPM jobs, while the longer stacks make more torque. The Contender group probably is a bit faster on longer or higher power tracks. The Wasps are more at home on short or twisty tracks, especially because they are marginally lighter.

For either group, try NOT to use the strongest of magnets, as you would on an x-12. Also, you can tolerate higher timing on these types of armature than on an x-12.

The Asp chassis should handle tremendously well with these motors, as it can handle the more powerful 12's with ease. On a short enough course, these group 10 motors can make for a faster car than with a 12, because the power that they make will be a bit less violent. As a starting point, try the Contender/Sportsman/Challengers geared approximately 4:1, and the Wasps at about 4.5:1.
