What is the best way to remove quad magnets without breaking them where they are glued together?I've ran the setup in my sonic cleaner with simple green to try and get behind the magnets no luck yet.I tried a soldering iron on the can and still had no luck.Anyone have any idea's?

Thanks

Put a bunch of solder on your soldering iron and move it around the can for about 2 minutes or so. Then use something hard that you can push on the whole magnet. It will come out, it may take holding the iron on the can longer. You could use a small torch, but you need to be careful and not separate the quad magnets.

The best way to remove magnets is to lend the motor to a friend and the magnets will be out when he returns it!!!

ROFLOL!

Good one Spove!

I was trying to do the reverse... a couple weeks ago I loaned a Group 10 car out to a local drag racer (crossing over to road racing now). At the end of the race, he noticed the magnet was loose, so he offered to rebuild it. He showed up at the next race with it rebuilt just like new, and asked if he could borrow it again. I said (jokingly) that I've got a box full of motors with magnets out - maybe each week I should loan him a different one! :p

a torch is the simplest, fastest, easiest way.. i can take out any number of mags, from 2 to 24 in about a minute or less! lol

Dana,

The simple fact is that any method you use capable of separating the magnets from the can is just as likely to separate them from each other. I'm assuming this is a concern to you because you want the re-installation to be easier.

Keep in mind that you're going to be scraping and sanding the old glue off, giving you another excellent chance of separating the set. Don't sweat it!! The best way to reinstall them is to separate the bonded sets, mix the segments so they stick to each other, and glue them in without worrying that they will repel and leave a gap. Invest two bucks and have the setup zapped: you should do that anyway after using a torch on them!
